Maya Wind: Destruction of Gaza’s Universities Part of Broader Israeli Project to Destroy Palestinian Liberation
Israeli scholar Maya Wind joins us for Part 2 of her interview about her new book, Towers of Ivory and Steel: How Israeli Universities Deny Palestinian Freedom. She discusses Israel’s destruction of Gaza’s universities; the coalescing of Israeli university administrations with the Israeli far right; the move to repress Palestinian organizing on U.S. campuses, including of groups like Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace; and how archaeology, law, Middle East studies and other forms of knowledge production have subordinated their research agendas to the requirements of the Israeli state.

Banjo Maestro Rhiannon Giddens Has Broken Many Musical Barriers. Now She is Working With Beyonce.
It’s been a busy period for the pioneering musical artist Rhiannon Giddens. She won a Pulitzer Prizer for her opera Omar, about Omar ibn Said, a Muslim scholar in Africa who was sold into slavery in the 1800s. She released a remarkable musical video for her song “Another Wasted Life” featuring 22 people who were wrongly incarcerated. And now her banjo playing can be heard on “Texas Hold ’Em” the new hit single by Beyonce who recently become the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs Chart. Back from Gaza, Palestinian Writer Susan Abulhawa Says “Language is Inadequate” to Describe Horror
Palestinian novelist, poet and activist Susan Abulhawa joins us for Part 2 of her interview from Cairo after two weeks in Gaza. She discusses the impact of “unlimited weaponry” supplied by the United States for Israel to bomb and starve civilians there. “Language is really inadequate and insufficient to capture the enormity of this moment,” says Abulhawa. “What I’ve seen is really a fraction of the totality of this horror.” She is the founder and co-director of Playgrounds for Palestine, a children’s organization and the Executive Director of Palestine Writes Literature Festival.

Alabama IVF Patient's Warning to Others Outside the State: "You Are Not Safe"
We continue our conversation with Alabama-based writer and artist Abbey Crain, who had been receiving in vitro fertilization treatments for about two years when the state Supreme Court issued its controversial ruling that frozen embryos are “children,” opening both patients and medical providers to new legal risks. State lawmakers have since passed protections for IVF providers, but they have not challenged the underlying logic of the court ruling. Crain says IVF is coming under threat as part of a larger Republican assault on reproductive healthcare, warning people outside the state, in a recent Glamour article, that “you are not special and you are not safe” from similar restrictions.
